I remember when it came out, I thought the design of the web site looked like a company shop that sold hand soap. I also remember having a very good time coding some Django in TextMate using the AmigaWB theme. I also remember trying to finish that code on the date of a deadline and screaming in anguish. I still like the idea of keeping my models in one file. Anyway, belated happy birthday.
As a pressie, I’m going to try out Django 5. It’s been years. I’m guessing it’s all quite the same, just better. Class-based views… I remember those being controversial last time I looked. I hope function-based views are still something too, in case I feel like comparing. Forms look fun; I had a lil look at those today. I’m not going to make a blog – I already use Textpattern and by jove I’m not relaunching yet again. I think I’ll try making something with a login, like the opening hours site I’m rebooting. I guess my weak point is sessions. I’ll read about those first and work out from there. Gotta keep security tight!
I was 22 when Django came out. 20 years… man… that’s half a lifetime I’ve been doing code. Little to show for it so far, but let’s hope for another twenty before I go.
